Wrexham are setting their bar high in the upcoming summer transfer window. Already we’re seeing some top names linked with a move to the Racecourse.
The summer transfer window opens on June 1st, leaving Phil Parkinson with a week until he and his Wrexham side can officially start to make summer signings.
And there’s a lot of new signings needed at the Racecourse if Wrexham are to be a competitive Championship side next season, with the 2025/26 campaign bound to be by far the most difficult of the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney era.
But Parkinson is setting his sights on some top names. Recent reports have suggested that former Liverpool and England striker Danny Ings could be a target for Wrexham this summer, whilst Fulham stalwart Tom Cairney has also been mentioned.
They’re just two of a growing list of players linked with Wrexham so far this summer, which includes a number of Championship-experienced players too.

Fulham boss Marco Silva confirms Tom Cairney contract talks amid Wrexham links
It’s been claimed that Wrexham have offered Cairney a contract ahead of the summer. The 34-year-old is currently out of contract at Craven Cottage this summer and it’s been claimed that the Dragons have offered Cairney a staggering £50,000-a-week to join the club this summer.
Whether those rumours are based in fact or not remains to be seen. But there’s still a chance that Cairney stays with Fulham for at least another year, with manager Marco Silva now confirming that the club has been in talks with Cairney over potentially renewing his stay with the club.
Speaking to the press ahead of his side’s penultimate Premier League game against Man City on Sunday, Silva explained: “Between the football club, Kenny Tete and Tom Cairney there have been discussions and conversations with their representatives… I’m not directly involved in negotiations with the agents and all that stuff but I just wait to hear if there’s an agreement with the club.”

What Humphrey Ker said about Tom Cairney to Wrexham this summer
The Cairney rumour emerged earlier in May and it’s remained since. So much so that Wrexham community director Humphrey Ker gave his verdict on Cairney signing for the club this summer, in a recent interview with Chris Moyles.
Ker said: “Well, I mean, he’s a brilliant player, Tom Cairney, and I’m sure we’d be very grateful to have him. But he is the very specific instance where our fans were like, ‘I’m not sure about this, I don’t know what they’re doing. What does this mean about our transfer thing?’ Like, we haven’t had that conversation yet.”
In the same interview, Ker ruled out moves for strikers Patrick Bamford and Jamie Vardy. His comments on Cairney then might suggest that there is an interest in the player, but that there’s still a way to go before a deal can be complete.
The latest news of a possible renewal at Fulham seems like bad news for the Dragons too. But if Cairney fancies a new challenge and a bumper contract then a move to Wrexham could soon materialise.
