Aston Villa have returned for Pedro Gonçalves – Long term pursuit may now yield something

Pedro Gonçalves probably shouldn’t still be at Sporting CP.

He turns 27-years-of-age in June and has easily shown enough during his time with the Portuguese club to warrant a chance in the Premier League or elsewhere. Fate often hasn’t appeared to be on his side and whilst others have gone on to get their moves away from Portugal, and the enjoy the huge financial difference that brings, Pedro Gonçalves has been left where he is.

One of the clubs to be linked repeatedly with the player is Aston Villa. Claims have been going back years about their interest and intentions regarding the Sporting attacker. Earlier this month it was reported Aston Villa had dropped their interest after the player’s injury this season, however, A Bola now report that his form since he returned has ‘sparked the interest’ of Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen.

Both are said to have refreshed their interest in him.

Concurrently, Sporting are trying to secure their player to a new contract. His current deal lasts until June 2027 and it’s felt he deserves something more.

Whether for Pedro Gonçalves that means a new contract or a move away from Portugal remains to be seen.
