Florian Wirtz Bayer Leverkusen
Bay Arena Bayer Leverkusen
Despite much interest, Bayern Munich have been considered the favourites to sign Florian Wirtz but according to David Ornstein, the tables have turned in favour of Liverpool.
Liverpool and Manchester City were lagging behind in this massive transfer race and Bayern were confident that they would be able to land the Leverkusen midfielder. However, the journalist is claiming that Florian Wirtz now prefers a move to Anfield instead of remaining in Germany.
It’s not every day that someone refuses to join Bayern or even Manchester City but Arne Slot has developed a recipe for success at Liverpool and right now, they can get whoever they want.
Why has Florian Wirtz decided to snub Bayern and MCFC?
The first and biggest reason why Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue is because they have won the Premier League in style and under Arne Slot, the Reds have turned themselves into one of the most exciting teams in Europe.
They might have failed to win the UCL but the way they are playing, there’s guaranteed silverware coming their way next season.
Any player would love to be part of such a massive project and at Liverpool, Florian Wirtz will be a valued man. More often than not when champion teams sign players after a successful season, the new arrivals find it hard to rise above the competition. However, that will not be the case with the German midfielder.
Wirtz can very easily come in and fit into Arne Slot’s system, playing in the No. 10 role in front of Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch. Szoboszlai has had a wonderful season but if Slot is signing someone like Florian Wirtz, Szoboszlai will automatically fall down the pecking order.
The third reason why Wirtz has chosen Liverpool over the other suitors is because from day one the Reds have been in active pursuit of the midfielder. They have made their admiration very clear, holding multiple meetings with his family and representatives.
Can Liverpool finalise the deal in time?
David Ornstein claims that Leverkusen and Liverpool still need to finalise the transfer but we don’t see the talks breaking down. Bayer Leverkusen would be happy to see Florian Wirtz join Liverpool instead of playing for a direct rival.
The only talking point right now is the €150 million price tag but after winning the league, Arne Slot will undoubtedly be backed by a substantial transfer budget.
