Gary Neville shares reasons for concern at Man Utd ahead of transfer window,'I can't believe I'm saying that...'

Manchester United are gearing up for a busy transfer window, but they will be heavily reliant on sales due to financial implications.

Following a disappointing 2024/25 season, Manchester United aims to continue their rebuild under Ruben Amorim as head coach.

Manchester United lost 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

That defeat will prove costly because it means United will not be competing in Europe next season, having missed a golden opportunity to qualify for the Champions League.

Amorim will hope he can still persuade players to join him at Old Trafford, but there will also be pressure on Ineos to deliver after a rocky start as co-owners of the club.

Former United captain turned pundit Gary Neville has now shared what he’s been hearing about United’s transfer budget this summer and explained why he’s concerned about the upcoming transfer window.

Gary Neville believes Man Utd have £100m to spend on new players

Not only has Neville interviewed Sir Jim Ratcliffe in recent months, but the former right-back is also part of the Old Trafford Task Force, working on the planning for a new stadium.

On episode 34 of It’s Called Soccer, Neville expressed his fears of United “running out of cash”.

Neville also commented on reports he had heard about Amorim having a £100 million transfer kitty this summer.

“They’re now in a situation where they’re running out of cash, I can’t believe I’m saying that,” said Neville.

“I think they’re today saying that Ruben Amorim will get £100million, that’s the sort of noise I’m hearing.

“That’s where they’re at. Amorim is going to stay – good, that’s fine – and they’re going to give him £100million.

“I would probably ask the question – who’s going to have to be sold to fund that? There’s going to have to be some incoming money I suspect.”

In addition, Neville hinted that Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could be in contention to be sold this summer as United look to raise funding for signings.

He said: “I tell you what, there’s something fundamentally wrong when you’re ripping the heart out of an academy at a football club.”

What’s next for Manchester United?

For United fans, it’s going to be a long summer reflecting on a dire season.

Amorim will be tasked with significantly improving his team ahead of the new campaign in August and he won’t have any credit in the bank after losing the Europa League final in Bilbao.

United are in action again on Sunday for the final Premier League game of the season against high-flying Aston Villa.

Then, United will embark on a 2-game post-season tour in Asia.
