David Beckham responds to Gary Neville commentary ban, suggests Man Utd reason

Gary Neville has been banned from working at the City Ground for their final Premier League game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.

It’s been a dire Premier League campaign because there was no title race, the relegation scrap was settled early, and Manchester United are destined to finish in the bottom half of the table.

To make matters worse for United, there will be no trophy to celebrate after throwing away an opportunity to win the Europa League for a second time, losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

It’s also been a difficult time for pundits covering the Premier League. They tried to hype up a title race, but Arsenal let Liverpool run away with it. This has led to greater excitement around the race for Champions League spots, which sadly doesn’t involve United.

While Liverpool and Arsenal have both qualified for the 2025/26 Champions League, it remains to be seen which Premier League sides will join them. There is just one point separating fourth-in-the-table Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in seventh. Even Man City are not yet certain of finishing in the top five. Aston Villa are also in the race to qualify for Europe’s most prestigious competition.

David Beckham reacts to Gary Neville ban from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest banned Gary Neville from working for Sky Sports at the City Ground for their final game of the season against Chelsea.

The Premier League outfit, who still have a lot to play for, have refused to give Neville accreditation for the game following comments he made about the club’s owner.

Now, Neville has been forced to withdraw after Forest made a stand following a row over criticism of Evangelos Marinakis.

After a draw against relegated Leicester City earlier this month, Marinakis came onto the pitch to speak with Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo after striker Taiwo Awoniyi was forced off through injury.

Neville took to X after the incident, writing: “Scandalous from that Forest owner. Nuno should go and negotiate his exit tonight with him! The Forest fans, players and manager do not deserve that.”

Anyhow, it has led to Neville being banned from the City Ground, and he took to Instagram to explain the situation. It sparked several comments as Jamie Carragher replied with six laughing emojis, while David Beckham made a joke at Nottingham Forest’s expense.

Beckham wrote: “Must have been something to do with that 7-1 game back in the day.”

However, Beckham was referring to the time United beat Forest 8-1 in February 1999, thanks to four goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The other goals were scored by Dwight Yorke (2) and Andy Cole (2).

Neville won’t be on duty at the City Ground on Sunday, and it remains to be seen if his ban will be lifted ahead of next season.

Gary Neville record against Nottingham Forest

During his playing career, Neville played against Nottingham Forest on six occasions.

United were victorious in four of those matches, although Neville was only once on the receiving end of a defeat to Forest.
