Five Newcastle United players set to bid St James' Park farewell v Everton as £20m transfer…

The five players set to leave Newcastle United this summer - as it stands.

As it stands, the Magpies are set to lose a handful of players next month with contracts coming to an end and a transfer deal already triggered.

However, there are still players facing an uncertain future. NewcastleWorld takes a look at the players who will be bidding a St James’ Park farewell this weekend - as it stands.

Callum Wilson - out of contract

It’s been over a year since Wilson last scored a Premier League goal after missing five of the opening six months of the 2024-25 campaign through injury. The 33-year-old has managed to remain fit and available since February but has made just three starts in that time due to the form of Alexander Isak.

Newcastle have an option to extend Wilson’s contract until 2026 but whether that clause is triggered remains to be seen. As it stands, the striker is among the club’s top earners.

Addressing his future earlier this week, Wilson told the High Performance Podcast: “I’m comfortable now. Financially, thankfully, I’m stable so that’s not an issue. I know I’m still able to provide for my family and put food on the table for them.

“I know my worth and I know my value and I’m still so hungry inside that even though I know Alex is scoring goals, I’m still frustrated when the team sheet comes out and I’m not starting so I know I’m not ready to leave football yet.

“I’d love to leave football before football leaves me, I’d never let an injury stop me from playing - I think I’ve been fit now four-and-a-half months but I’ve probably only played 250 or 300 minutes and that side of things are frustrating because you don’t want to last few years on your career to fizzle away from you, especially when you’re worked so hard to get to that point.

“It’s all new for me at the moment but I’m just enjoying life, enjoying football and playing with a smile on my face. What’s meant to be will be.”

John Ruddy - out of contract

Ruddy signed a one-year contract with Newcastle after joining on a free transfer from Birmingham City last summer. He is yet to make a first-team appearance, though that was always likely as fourth-choice goalkeeper.

But considering the impact the 38-year-old has made behind the scenes, Howe may look to hand him a new deal.

Speaking in February, Howe said: “John has been brilliant behind the scenes. He has fully embraced everything we’ve asked him to do. He’s at youth games. He’s really invested in trying to help people.

“Every player I’m sure he’s used his experience in some way. John has been a vital part of what we’ve done this year.”

Mark Gillespie - out of contract

Gillespie has only made three appearances for Newcastle, his last coming in September 2020. But similar to Ruddy. Howe values the goalkeeper’s contribution behind the scenes.

The 33-year-old has signed one-year contract extensions in the last two summers.

Jamal Lewis - out of contract

Lewis spent the first half of the season on loan at Brazilian giants Sao Paulo but saw his spell cut short after just six appearances because of an ankle injury that required surgery.

The 27-year-old is still injured ahead of his contract expiring in June 30. He has made 36 appearances - the last coming two years ago - since arriving from Norwich City for £15million in 2020.

Lloyd Kelly - joining Juventus

Kelly joined Newcastle as a free agent last summer on a five-year deal but after a limited number of first-team appearances was loaned to Serie A giants Juventus in January.

The agreement included a £20million obligation to buy, which has already been triggered due to the 26-year-old reaching a certain number of appearances.
