Former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, has hinted at his preference for Lisbon over London amidst transfer rumours linking him to Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 26 year old Swedish striker, who has become one of Europe's most sought-after forwards in the past two seasons, has scored an impressive 96 goals in 101 appearances since moving to Sporting CP.
Initially, it was thought that Manchester United were leading the race to sign Gyokeres due to his close ties with their head coach and former Sporting boss, Ruben Amorim.
However, recent reports suggest that Arsenal may now be the more appealing option for the forward, thanks to their Champions League qualification and positive trajectory compared to the Red Devils.
Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is also said to be a big admirer of Gyokeres.
Mirror Football reported earlier this week that the Gunners are still undecided on whether they want the £60million-rated Gyokeres to spearhead their attack next season, with manager Mikel Arteta also considering Benjamin Sesko. However, Gyokeres may have just made the decision easier for Arsenal.
In a recent interview with Portuguese publication A Bola, when asked to choose between London and Lisbon, Gyokeres revealed his preference, reports [the Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/viktor-gyokeres-man-utd-arsenal-35278566).
He replied: "I prefer Lisbon because I live here now. And yes, I like living here," hinting that his future may be in the Portuguese capital or simply playing his cards close to his chest.
This follows recent claims by the ex-Coventry City ace's uncle, Chris, who suggested that Gyokeres and his family had resolved in a meeting not to move this summer.
Sporting a Sporting scarf and jersey on the day Gyokeres netted the title-winning goal, he expressed: "I'm super happy, this is amazing. We were here last year, it's the same spirit, the same people, the same atmosphere. Absolutely fantastic! Beyond words!".
Chris also mentioned their family discussion about Viktor's transfer prospects when asked if they felt at home at Sporting: "Yes, very much... yesterday at dinner we decided that he has to stay."
When probed about whether Gyokeres will remain at the club come summer, he confirmed: "Yes, we think so."
Gyokeres himself has since downplayed these remarks, indicating he hasn't made up his mind about next season. He commented on his family's feelings: "They really like Portugal; I think they want to be here and enjoy the city, the good weather, and all the atmosphere.
"But it's football and that's another thing. We'll see what happens. Yes \[I would like to win a third title with Sporting\], but we'll see. I don't know what will happen in the summer... Let's see what happens."
Whilst the Gunners continue to be heavily linked, United's chase for Gyokeres seems to have lost steam in recent months as they've shifted their focus to Ipswich Town's £30million forward, Liam Delap, and Wolves' Matheus Cunha.
