Neville demands Man Utd to “wipe out” £31m injury-prone star for his negativity

Manchester United legend Gary Neville demands that Ruben Amorim “wipe out” Luke Shaw and any player creating a negative influence. Neville responded to Shaw’s dejected comment after the Europa League final loss, questioning if players are good enough for United.

The Red Devils lost the final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur despite dominating possession, but failing to make clinical goalscoring opportunities. Spurs scored the only goal of the game in the latter stages of the first half, shocking the Red Devils.

United have endured a terrible season, currently 16th in the Premier League table after 37 games, securing only 39 points. The Europa League final acted as their route to next season’s Champions League and a massive boost to their finances.

Gary Neville demanded Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim to "wipe out" Luke Shaw and any player who is spreading negativity within the team.

Gary Neville demanded Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim to “wipe out” Luke Shaw and any player who is spreading negativity within the team.

United are facing financial troubles that would hinder Amorim’s capability to make several required changes during the upcoming summer window. Man United need a squad overhaul after the team Amorim inherited from Erik ten Hag has failed to adjust tactically.

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer (via YouTube), Neville demanded that Amorim “wipe out” Shaw and any United player creating negativity. He said:

“Luke, it’s not your job to determine that; the manager will determine that. When the players are starting to come out and question publicly whether they are good enough to play for the club that you know how bad it is internally there. Imagine what they are saying inside. If you can feel people having a [negative] influence over others, I think you have to wipe it out. You’ve got to wipe out every single player in that dressing room who doesn’t believe that they have got total and utter confidence to play for that football club. The club is eating them alive, it’s too big for them, and someone’s got to get a grip of that club, and I think it has to be the manager. Ruben, you’ve got to get a grip of that club.”

Neville has made a strong point as the negative environment continues to persist at United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. The recurring theme of the poor transfer window and struggling players prolonging their stay at the club has normalised mediocrity.

A club of United’s stature should never accept 16th place as a forgivable offence and needs a serious, quick reaction. Liverpool winning the 20th league title and equaling United’s record has only rubbed more salt into the wounds of the loyal supporters.

During this time of crisis, the statement from Shaw is not just an honest introspection but a show of a poor mindset. As one of the experienced players at the club, United need better from Shaw, particularly when his injury issues have already alienated a lot of fans in recent years. United signed Shaw in 2014 from Southampton for £31m, making him the fourth most expensive defender in world football at that time.
