Scott McTominay has been named the Most Valuable Player in Serie A after his Napoli side's title success.

The Manchester United academy graduate was sold to Napoli earlier this season for a fee in excess of £25m. The Scotsman scored 29 goals across 255 appearances for the Reds, but in just one season with Napoli, McTominay had almost scored half of his United tally.

Having bagged 13 goals and four assists in his first season in Italy, the 28-year-old was a catalyst in Napoli's title victory, having edged Inter Milan to the title by a single point.

His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was crowned Serie A's Most Valuable Player for the 2024/25 campaign. The midfielder fell to the ground at the end of Napoli's final league game in tears and was left speechless.

"I'm lost for words," McTominay said after the game. "It's incredible you know, the sacrifice that every single player in the group has put forward to the cause.

"And the people deserve it because they've been behind us from day one, and for me to come and experience this is a dream."

The Scottish international has now written himself into Napoli's history book, one that is steeped in iconic names such as Diego Maradona and fellow-former United star Edinson Cavani.

The Italian side's fans have embraced McTominay since he arrived at the start of the season. Flags hung around the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona read his name, and the midfielder has even earned himself the nickname, 'McFratm', which roughly translates to 'McBro.'

The former United star is enjoying his time in Italy as he told BBC Scotland: "I saw the passionate fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players and I saw an opportunity.

"I took it, I didn't look back. It didn't take me long to make the decision because I knew that was what I wanted and I'll never have any regrets in my life.

As soon as I put my mind to something I want to do it, that's it. There's no holding me back. I love this place, I love the fans, I love my team-mates."

McTominay will feature in the Champions League next season with Napoli, but there will be no reunion with Man United after Ruben Amorim's side lost the Europa League final to Tottenham.
