"He Is Going To Want To Play" - International Manager Confirms 25 Goal West Ham Target's Transfer Stance

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch claims West Ham transfer target Jonathan David will want to be a regular starter at his next club.

The 25-year-old is set to leave Lille on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires, and the Hammers are among his potential suitors. Asked about the striker’s future, Marsch said:

“Knowing Johnny, he is going to want to play (every week wherever he goes). The most important thing for him is, it’s not good if he goes somewhere and then he has to play on the bench a lot and not get minutes to keep himself sharp and fit and ready to go, especially with the World Cup being a year away.”

Marsch’s comments about the World Cup are noteworthy. David will be determined to play regularly ahead of the international tournament, which is being co-hosted by his country.

David has plenty of suitors

Newcastle, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been mentioned as potential destinations for the Canadian international over the past year, in addition to West Ham.

Clubs on the continent, such as Inter Milan and Barcelona, have also been credited with an interest in David, who has scored 25 times in all competitions this campaign.

West Ham are looking at several strikers

While David has been seriously considered by the Irons, with the club keen to take advantage of the free agent market, he is by no means the only No.9 being looked at.

Lazio’s Valentin Castellanos has recently emerged as an option, having impressed with his performances in Italy over the past 12 months.

Ajax’s Brian Brobbey, Crystal Palace’s Jean Philippe Mateta, Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha, Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Tim Kleindienst are just a few of the other names who have been linked with a move to the London Stadium.
