Just in: Southampton agree deal to appoint “incredible” manager on three-year deal

Southampton have a full agreement in place for Will Still to become their new manager, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph.

Southampton have been looking for a new permanent manager since Ivan Juric departed the club after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. Their return to the Championship was confirmed with seven games remaining and while Simon Rusk has had interim charge since Juric's departure, it has long been clear that the Saints would seek a new appointment.

Now, it appears that former Reims and Lens manager Will Still is set to sign a contract at St Mary's to become Southampton's new manager. In just his early 30s, Still is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in the world, having become established in Ligue 1. So much so, that Still has been dubbed "incredible" for his capabilities.

Still recently departed Lens for personal reasons and it was clear that the manager was seeking a move to England due to this. In Southampton, who have been looking at multiple managerial candidates, Still has the perfect chance to establish himself in English football and will surely replicate the impressive feats he accomplished with both Reims and Lens.

When last in the Championship, Southampton hired Russell Martin - a young, promising manager with a clear style of play. While Martin struggled in the Premier League, it is clear that they have gone for a similar appointment with Still, who is set to sign a three-year contract with the club.

In their new manager, though, the Saints have a boss who is accustomed to top flight football which, in theory, will help them better translate to the Premier League should Still accomplish what can only be assumed will be his first big task, to earn promotion back to the top flight.
