Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin has opened up on his chats with Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson as he develops his own managerial career.
[Göteborgs-Posten](https://www.gp.se/) have an interview with the Aberdeen manager today in which he discusses his conversations with the iconic manager.
Thelin has been in charge of Aberdeen since June 2024, his first managerial position outside of Sweden, where he’d previously managed J-Södra IF U17, Jönköpings Södra IF U21, J-Södra IF U19, J-Södra IF and IF Elfsborg.
It’s been a solid year for him at Aberdeen so far, with 49 matches in total and a points per game ratio of 1.69.
The hope for the Scottish side is that he can get them competing at the top of the table once again alongside Celtic and Glasgow Rangers.
Their last league title came back in 1985, while they haven’t won the Scottish Cup since 1990 and they last won the Scottish League Cup in 2014. Their last European trophy also came in 1983, when they won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
That was under Sir Alex Ferguson, who arrived at the club in 1978 and led them to three league titles, four Scottish cups, the Scottish League cup and both the European Cup Winners Cup and Super Cup before leaving for Manchester United and becoming the legendary manager, we know today.
The pair have since met after being introduced following a 2-2 draw with Celtic and the Aberdeen manager admits he was left impressed.
“Our owner Dave Cormack has a good relationship with him, so he put us together,” he said.
“We have exchanged thoughts since we met at Old Trafford, and he is a very wise person. But exactly what we have talked about is a private matter.
“What he did at Aberdeen and Manchester United – everyone understands what a fantastic achievement it is. To renew yourself so many times and still maintain the same high performance, at that level, is incredible.”
