Arsenal news: Julian Álvarez has been one of the standout performers in European football this past season. Since his arrival at Atlético de Madrid, the Argentine has transformed Simeone’s attacking line with his energy, goals and commitment. It didn’t take long for him to become indispensable.
His impact was immediate and he made it clear that this was not a long-term gamble, but a solution for the present. With 29 goals in his first season with Los Colchoneros, Alvarez confirmed everything that was expected of him. It is therefore surprising that now, less than a year later, there is talk of a possible exit.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich want €100 million striker
The Spanish programme El Chiringuito claims that Atlético would be willing to listen to offers for Álvarez, as long as they exceed the investment made last summer. There is talk of a figure in the region of €100 million, and the interested parties are not few.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all reportedly shown interest and are monitoring the situation closely. Barcelona were mentioned recently, but their financial situation leaves them out of the conversation. For now, the focus is on three giants who could afford to spend that kind of money. Each has its own reasons to go for him, although not all have the same urgency or the same conditions to close the deal.
Of the three candidates, Arsenal seem to be the most likely in the short term. Arteta’s team needs a striker of a level that can solve in tight games. While their priority was Viktor Gyökeres, the apparent cooling of that interest may indicate a shift towards Álvarez. The Premier League is already familiar with his talent and his style fits the Gunners’ fast, vertical game.
Moreover, his age and immediate returns make him a safe option to compete from the first minute. Liverpool, meanwhile, would have to readjust their attacking structure, with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz still part of the equation. Including Álvarez would mean selling or sacrificing minutes of other important players. And that in a transition year with a new coach can be a risky gamble.
BTP Opinion:
Bayern have Kane, but need to plan for the future. While they could imagine the two living together, the Bavarian club doesn’t usually spend that much on a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter. With Wirtz on the radar, all indications are that resources are being directed in another direction. In that sense, Arsenal have a young squad, a growing project and an obvious need. It would also offer Alvarez a leading role, something that could weigh heavily in his final decision.
A different view on the matter has to do with Atlético itself. While the club is open to listening to offers, it is not yet clear that it wants to sell. It could be a manoeuvre to attract interest and raise the player’s value. If no one comes in at 100 million, they will hardly let him leave. In short, if there is one club that has the need, the tactical space and the financial ability to sign Alvarez today, it is Arsenal.
