Report: Bayern Munich issue Florian Wirtz statement that edges Liverpool closer to transfer deal

Liverpool and Florian Wirtz have dominated headlines over the last 24 hours.

Since rumours of Wirtz leaving Bayer Leverkusen first surfaced, Liverpool had been one of the many teams linked with an interest in the midfielder.

Others, such as Manchester City and Bayern Munich also threw their hat into the ring, but at the moment, it seems that Merseyside is Wirtz’s preferred destination.

To be quite frank, this came as a massive shock to many due to the Anfield outfit’s usual laid-back attitude in transfer windows.

But, on the face of things, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense.

Bayern Munich admit that Florian Wirtz would prefer a Liverpool move

As with most Bundesliga talents, most expected Bayern to be the ones prying the German away from Leverkusen.

However, Bayern’s president, Herbert Hainer, has seemingly confirmed that Wirtz would prefer a move to Liverpool.

“Max Eberl informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool,” he said in quotes summarised by Florian Plettenberg.

In terms of what this means for Liverpool, it’s a massive step in the right direction, because up until now, it was only journalists reporting what they’d heard.

However, the fact that Bayern’s president has now confirmed the reports means that the Reds are now closer than ever to signing the young German.

Florian Wirtz will help Liverpool retain the Premier League title next season

It goes without saying that Liverpool have been the best team in the Premier League this season by some margin.

Players such as Mohamed Salah have broken multiple records already, and although the Merseyside outfit have slowed down somewhat over the last few weeks, they’re still 12 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

And, with the addition of Wirtz to Arne Slot’s ranks next season, it’s hard to see how any of their title rivals will be able to outperform them.

Indeed, there are still a couple of areas within Liverpool’s squad that could do with strengthening, but with the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong all but officially confirmed, it doesn’t seem like the rumours will slow down any time soon.
