People Missed Best Part About Caleb Williams’ Recent Footwork Change

One thing about Chicago Bears fans is they’re not stupid. They cover the team enough that even the slightest change gets noticed. Just look at how they decipher possible team intentions before a draft. These people could make incredible detectives if they were ever motivated enough. So, of course, they would notice if something changed about quarterback Caleb Williams. In this case, it was an adjustment to his foot stance in the shotgun. He’d had his right foot forward for years, dating back to college. However, at the start of OTAs, it was pointed out he switched to having his left foot forward.

This was the first notable change under new head coach Ben Johnson. People were curious why he pushed for it. Johnson offered practice reasoning at his recent press conference.

“I think it helps out certainly with the quick game from the gun, and then helps us being a little bit better at a throwing posture for a lot of the other things that we’re asking him to do.”

Yet the best part about this story wasn’t the reasoning for the change, as logical as it is. It was the fact that Johnson wasn’t the only one thinking about it. He revealed Williams had already considered it without even being told to do so.

“So it wasn’t so much us telling him to do it. It was more a mutual, ‘Yeah, let’s see what this looks like.’ And I think he’s taken to it.”

The Caleb Williams narrative about lacking a work ethic takes another hit.

At every turn, media critics have criticized the young quarterback for being entitled, selfish, and lazy. A recent ESPN story detailing his attempts to avoid getting drafted by the Bears only fanned those flames. Yet the evidence says otherwise. This guy had to watch a film by himself last season, getting no help from coaches. Despite all of that, he still had the best rookie season in Bears history. Now, he has done enough work to realize that changing his stance would benefit his career without any input from coaches. There is no way that would happen if what the critics say were true. Nobody knows how good Caleb Williams will be in the NFL. Yet to say he doesn’t put in the work is ridiculous, and this story proves it.
