Not Delap: Sky Sports reveal Man Utd'keen'to sign£50m PL forward, manager described him as'incredible'

Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their efforts to reinforce their frontline with a new centre-forward ahead of a crucial summer window.

According to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett, Man United are “keen” on signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro as a potential solution to their attacking woes.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United are all monitoring the Brazilian, while Brighton are said to be demanding north of £50 million to part ways with their prized asset.

Pedro has played 27 Premier League games this season, netting 10 goals and providing six assists.

Half of his goals have come from the penalty spot, raising valid doubts over whether he has the cutting edge to lead United’s line.

His last goal from open play came three months ago in a clash against Southampton.

Despite his technical flair and versatility, Brighton’s asking price seems excessive for a player who has fallen short of expectations.

United head coach Ruben Amorim fields his side in a 3-4-3 setup and while Pedro can operate across the front three, his inconsistency makes him a risky fit.

The 23-year-old offers a strong work rate and links up well with his teammates.

However, he is too expensive and simply not good enough to fit United’s transfer model.

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is available for £30m after his side were relegated and represents a more affordable and potentially higher-upside alternative.

There are also concerns about Pedro’s attitude after his training ground altercation with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke.

He also received a red card for lashing out at Nathan Collins in a 4-2 defeat at Brentford in April.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler described Pedro as an “incredible footballer” but confirmed that he will not be allowed to feature in the last game of the season for disciplinary reasons.

While the Seagulls have built a reputation for smart recruitment, their £30 million investment in Pedro from Watford in 2023 appears to be a rare misfire.
