Report: Newcastle are 'nervous' about the future of 27-goal ace as major Liverpool transfer update emerges

Liverpool have found themselves in the headlines an awful lot over the last few weeks, with the 2025-26 summer transfer window already gearing up to be a busy one.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving Anfield for pastures new, with Jeremie Frimpong on his way in to replace the Englishman.

However, while there are plenty of defensive changes set to take place in Arne Slot’s team this summer, other areas such as their attack cannot be forgotten about.

Granted, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have both had stellar seasons, but others, such as Darwin Nunez, have left a lot to be desired.

As a result, it is not all that much of a surprise to see Liverpool being linked with a fair few strikers ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Newcastle are ‘nervous’ about keeping Alexander Isak as Liverpool’s ‘lucrative’ budget causes a problem

As per a report from GiveMeSport, Eddie Howe and Newcastle are getting ‘slightly nervous’ about convincing Alexander Isak to stay at the club.

Isak has long been linked with Liverpool as their need for a new number nine became more obvious as the season went on.

The report goes on to say that there’s now an ‘awareness’ at Newcastle that Liverpool could ‘open negotiations’ with the striker and attempt to prise him away from St James’ Park.

GiveMeSport do, however, mention that any effort made by the Reds would only be an ‘attempt’ to see if Isak would be willing to take on a new challenge.

How Alexander Isak compares with Darwin Nunez

There’s no denying that Isak has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season.

The Sweden international has often carried Newcastle to victory with his performances, with the striker often single-handedly earning Howe and his men some vital points, whereas, Nunez has been the polar opposite for Liverpool.

In fact, the Reds’ fans are now actually getting frustrated at the lack of form he’s shown in the final third, despite the many chances he’s been given.

If Liverpool had somebody of Isak’s calibre helping Salah out this season, then it’s hard to see how they wouldn’t have come away with the Carabao Cup and perhaps even the Champions League title.

One of the main areas Slot’s team have lacked in this season is at striker, and while Cody Gakpo and Diaz have put in more than respectable shifts, it feels like so much more could come from Liverpool’s number nine.

Only time will tell what the future has in store, but if Liverpool can pull off a move for Isak, it’ll no doubt be the coup of the window.
