West Ham are set for a summer of struggle as PSR issues may dominate the London club again.

It has been an awful campaign for the Hammers. The London club sit 15th in the Premier League table and could end up fourth from bottom by the season’s end.

Signings are no doubt needed at the London Stadium, with real fears that the Hammers could be relegated next season.

However, West Ham are in serious PSR trouble and may have to sell some of their stars to bring in players. Therefore, money is needed at the Hammers, and fast.

Sheffield United victory will bring in much-needed West Ham cash

On Saturday, West Ham will learn the final team in the Premier League next season.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Sheffield United take on Sunderland in the Championship play-off final at Wembley with both teams aiming to return to the top-flight.

However, the implications of the final could have financial consequences for West Ham.

West Ham’s transfer net spend in the last five seasons

2020/21 £-7.7m

2021/22 £-58.25m

2022/23 £-145.1m

2023/24 £21.47m

2024/25 £-82.6m

West Ham have only made a transfer profit in one of their last five seasons, according to Football 365 (22 May)

According to Kieran Maguire on X (24 May), Premier League clubs are set to save a combined £39million if Sheffield United are promoted.

This is because they will no longer have to pay the Blades parachute payments as they will be back in the top-flight, with a combined £56million already saved from Leeds United and Burnley coming up.

Therefore, West Ham will surely want the Blades to immediately return to the Premier League on Saturday.

Even the extra couple of million saved could help the London club bring in another player or keep a much-loved star at the London Stadium.

It is likely that Sheffield United will also come straight back down based on their recent Premier League seasons. Therefore, they are surely no threat to the Hammers either.

It won’t just be the fans of Sunderland and Sheffield United with an interest in the Championship Playoff final today, Premier League clubs have a vested interest too.

David Sullivan needs to take better care of West Ham’s finances

The situation David Sullivan has got West Ham into this summer is a disgrace.

There shouldn’t be a situation where Hammers fans are hoping one team beats another in a play-off final just to reap a small financial reward.

Sullivan has recently lost a big share of his personal wealth, which is an indication that he needs to leave.

If West Ham’s owner cannot manage their finances within and outside the London club, then they cannot be trusted to run it, with a summer of change ahead.
