Rangers will hold further talks with Davide Ancelotti over the vacant managerial position at Ibrox.

It's understood Rangers will not appoint the new manager by the end of the week despite vast speculation over Steven Gerrard or Ancelotti taking over.

Instead, as reported by The Rangers Review, further discussions will take place with Ancelotti over the position.

Reports in Spain had suggested Ancelotti was close to committing himself to Rangers, but it's thought that is not accurate.

The coach, son of Carlo Ancelotti, is highly-regarded at Rangers and a candidate to become the new manager but the process is not close to being finalised.

Ancelotti will join his father at Brazil for the matches against Ecuador and Paraguay next month but reports he will stay on as a coach and reject the opportunity to make his own way as a manager are wide of the mark.

It's expected Ancelotti will receive offers this summer from European clubs, but the highly-rated coach is thought to be excited by the project at Ibrox.
