Russell Martin tipped to lure £15m fringe Southampton star at rivals Leicester

Russell Martin is tipped to consider Saints forward Cameron Archer as Jamie Vardy's Leicester replacement.

Days ago, Southampton were caught off guard, realizing Russell Martin's new managerial stint at Leicester. After all, being aware of the inside out at St. Mary's, Martin's arrival surely helps the Foxes in their mission to leapfrog the Saints.

But if Ipswich's promotion contention and his Leicester arrival weren't enough, the former Saints boss is hinted to make a Premier League return even more challenging for Southampton.

Now, Russell Martin aims to make the best of his previous Southampton stint as he eyes calling a key Saints signing in his Leicester project.

Russell Martin tipped to re-sign Cameron Archer at Leicester

As per EFL Analysis, it's Cameron Archer, whom Martin views as a long-term Jamie Vardy replacement at the King Power Stadium.

Having pushed for Archer's signing at Southampton, the manager sees him key to unlocking Leicester's goal drought now. Surprisingly, the boss' confidence in him isn't one-sided as Archer's 4 out of 5 goals this season had come before Martin's Southampton exit.

That's why, the £15m fringe signing, Cameron Archer, is the favourite to join Russell Martin for the second time in 2 seasons.

But, could Russell Martin's plan to swoop Archer turn into the ex-boss's Southampton raid? Truth be told, if this happens, it will eventually be to the Saints' benefit only.

In case Archer departs, Southampton can start afresh in the attacking department, getting rid of all their 2024 flop signings like Ben Brereton Diaz(who's tipped to leave) and the already departed Maxwel Cornet.

Again, with manager Will Still's arrival on the cards, Southampton hardly fears a goal drought with forwards, Ross Stewart and Paul Onuachu, to finish in wide crosses in the box.

Sure, Archer's exit might sting fans who hoped for the 23-year-old to lead Southampton's attack for years. But as of now, these feelings must be overcome to mark a fresh Championship beginning.
