Liverpool have been backed to sign Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller as they aim to resolve their midfield dilemma in the transfer market.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 24-year-old’s future.

Stiller has a £50million release clause in his contract which has inspired interest from Europe’s top clubs, with Liverpool and Real Madrid the latest to join the race.

The defensive midfielder is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Toni Kroos in Madrid, and he is keen to make the move to an elite club this summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been keen to bring in a new deep-lying midfielder since Arne Slot’s arrival after they missed out on Martin Zubimendi last year.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown revealed that Real Madrid want to sign Alexis Mac Allister as they also look to resolve their midfield issues.

O’Rourke explained that Stiller is on the radar of a number of Europe’s elite clubs and has ambitions of playing in the Champions League.

“*It’s not surprise that he’s attracting interest from top clubs,*” he told Football Insider.

“He’s been very impressive for Stuttgart this season in the Bundesliga.

“I think he’s got a release clause in his contract as well for around £50million.

“He is that defensive midfielder that Liverpool have been looking at, he’s a player that a lot of the top clubs are looking at.

“Real Madrid are now the latest club to show interest in Stiller as they are still looking for a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos.

“Xabi Alonso will be well aware of him from his time in the Bundesliga.

*“The player himself is interested in the chance to make a move to a huge European club and to be playing Champions League football.*“

Rayan Cherki and Florian Wirtz updates emerge at Anfield

A new midfielder is not the only position Slot is looking to strengthen in this summer, with a number of first-team targets on the Reds’ radar.

Football Insider revealed on 24 May that Liverpool could sign Lyon winger Rayan Cherki for as little as £19million as he is set to leave the Ligue 1 club.

While there is interest from Anfield, Cherki is not top of their list of targets and will only be considered if they miss out on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Liverpool are closing in on Wirtz’s signing after holding talks with the player and his family.
