Chelsea to accelerate the pursuit of English defender

Chelsea are keen to sign a highly rated English defender this summer. They are now set to accelerate the pursuit in order to land him.

Chelsea are keen to improve their squad this summer. They are set to sign some top players and provide Enzo Maresca with a good squad. As of now, they are keen to add new players in all parts of pitch. But, they have defensive signings as the top priority.

The Blues are ready to sell Disasi, Veiga and Chalobah. In addition, they can also cash-in on Badiashile for a right offer. Lastly, they can be seen parting ways with Fofana as they are worried about his injury issues. Hence, some top defenders are expected to land at West London.

Chelsea desperate to sign English defender

The star in question here is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace. He is 24 years old and has came throught Chelsea’s academy. He is now captain of Palace whereas a regular starter for England national team. The Blues are keen to re-sign him and latest reports say that they are accelerating the pursuit to land him.

“I know Chelsea have been looking at him as one of their top targets at centre-back. Obviously he came through their academy so they know him well. He would be a calming and stable influence which they haven’t currently got in their back line. So if they get into the Champions League which is their main focus for now, I expect they’ll step up their efforts to bring him in” – Mick Brown talking to Football Insider.

Earlier, Palace rejected a bid of around £70 million for Guehi in January. They were unwilling to let him leave in middle of the season. This has proved right as the 24 year old has guided them to their first ever major trophy in history. But, this will all change in summer.

Guehi will enter the final year of his contract this summer. He has rejected to sign an extension as he wants to move to a bigger club. Hence, Palace are set to sell him in order to avoid losing him for free. In addition, they will also drop their asking price to meet an agreement.
