Ruben Amorim insists he is HAPPY he took charge of Manchester United this season - despite initially wanting to wait until the summer to replace Erik ten Hag.
United's campaign has been an unmitigated disaster. The Red Devils last roll of the dice in Wednesday night's Europa League final fell flat with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao, ensuring no back door entry into next season's Champions League.
Amorim has overseen the club's fall to 16th in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's final match of the season against Aston Villa at Old Trafford and in the aftermath of the loss to Spurs at San Mames offered to walk away from the club without compensation if the United hierarchy wanted him to go.
However, the Portuguese retains the faith of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and club chiefs and is set to oversee a major rebuild at the club this summer. Having missed out on £100million in revenue from getting back to European football's top competition with their Basque country horror show, the club's new-found financial reality means EVERY PLAYER is available for transfer if the price is right.
But speaking at his pre-match press conference on Saturday, Amorim insists that the mistakes that have been made during 2024-25 will NOT be repeated next term.

"In this moment I am really glad we arrived six months before we started a new season," said the United boss. "I think we will avoid a lot of mistakes in the next season. Now is the time we can use all that suffering to change things in the summer.
"It is not just the players. There are a lot of things to change. We have suffered a lot but I am really glad I arrived six months ago because it will help me in the next season. We have this game against Villa and we need to focus on that, it is not over. We want to finish in a good way in front of our supporters.
"Then after we will assess the squad. We know what we want to do. We will deal with that when the season is finished."

And on the struggles of the current campaign, Amorim insisted: "I will not try to convince you otherwise, it’s been a tough season, but we had that hope we could win something and that could help us to finish the season in a different way.
"The way we can get up is to focus on the next game, to finish in a good way. When you start thinking about the future and the squad, a new season is going to start, and we will start with new ambitions and try to do better.
"I think these six months were really hard, a lot of changes, not just for me, but for all of the club. We did so many changes inside the club, sometimes it takes like five years or three years to change all the personnel and a lot of things. We changed coach in the middle of the season and we changed the way we play.
"It was a really tough season. Now it's the part we need to enjoy, to focus on the future and be positive. We know what to do, I know how I want to play, that is clear. With all the mistakes you guys point to me, I know how I want to play and that is the exciting moment we can change something."
