Report: Liverpool eye Atletico Madrid ace to replace 'world-class' player as transfer race heats up

Liverpool have had a fairly hectic couple of days in the transfer market with players such as Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong close to making their Anfield switches.

Indeed, Frimpong’s move is much further along than Wirtz’s, but if Arne Slot can manage to bring both in before the transfer window opens, it’ll be a major statement of intent.

Alongside these two, others have also been linked with a move, but with the entire summer to go, the rumour mill is bound to go into overdrive at some point.

Wirtz’s future has been the main story over the last few days, but away from that, it seems like the Anfield outfit are also exploring other areas of the market.

Liverpool now have Atletico Madrid’s Nahuel Molina on their ‘radar’

The name Nahuel Molina is one that most Liverpool fans likely won’t have heard of.

The Argentina international has been with Diego Simeone’s team since the summer of the 2022-23 season.

He’s appeared in the vast majority of Atletico’s games this season and now, as per a report from Spanish newspaper, Marca, Liverpool now have the right-back on their ‘radar.’

The report goes on to say that the Reds are looking at the defender as a potential replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold, even though Frimpong is already on his way in.

Other clubs such as Napoli, Juventus, Roma and Newcastle have all also ‘expressed interest’ in Molina, which means a five-way battle could end up taking place.

It’s clear that Liverpool have a rather large warchest to dip into over the course of the summer transfer window.

Multiple big-name players have already been linked with an Anfield switch, and to be honest, the rumours don’t seem like they’ll be dying down any time soon.

Playstyle-wise, Alexander-Arnold and Molina are fairly similar, with the Argentine having an attacking nature to his game.

While Molina and Alexander-Arnold both push forward, one of the main differences in their game is the defensive ability that Molina possesses.

The Argentine also has a fair amount of pace, so if he’s caught out, he will more often than not figure out a way to win the ball back.

Each of these skills, coupled with the fact that he’s a similar age to Alexander-Arnold, make this move seem like a worthwhile one, especially for the right price, even if Jurgen Klopp did call the Englishman a “world class” player.

His arrival would also allow Frimpong to push further up the pitch, where he’s seemed to thrive for Bayer Leverkusen over the last couple of seasons.
