Nottingham Forest man thinks history on their side as they chase Champions League

Nottingham Forest defender Morato has insisted they will use their success against the Big Six this season to ensure they get into the Champions League on the final day of the season.

They currently sit seventh in the Premier League after a disappointing few weeks have seen them slide out of the top four position they’ve occupied for much of the season.

The race to secure a top five position is extremely tight, though, with Nottingham Forest sitting on 65 points but Newcastle in fourth on 66 points. Chelsea and Aston Villa in fifth and sixth have the same number of points while Manchester City are on 68 in third.

It means Nottingham Forest know they have to beat Chelsea at home on the final day and hope other results go their way to secure Champions League football next season.

They have a good record against the sides around them in the league this season, though, and Morato insists they will use that to their advantage against Chelsea on Sunday. –

“It’s inevitable not to remember the great games we played against the big teams this season,” he said.

“This gives us confidence for this final round. We know it’s going to be very tough, but we trust in the atmosphere at City Ground, with the fans on our side, to put in another great game.

“We are all very happy with everything we are doing, and I am especially happy with this being my first year here, in such a special season for the club. But we are not satisfied. We will focus and play for the other spots in Europe. The team and the fans deserve it.

“Our team has a style of play that the big teams have had difficulty facing, because while our defensive system is very solid, our transition is very quick. When we open the scoring, it is very difficult to overcome us. These are strategic games that we are used to playing.”
