Report: Erik ten Hag could sabotage Man Utd one more time this summer with decision on £25m player

Manchester United are set for a tricky yet busy summer transfer window, with sales playing a big part in what Ineos are able to do.

By losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, Manchester United’s finances are set to be stretched this summer.

This is because United miss out on the cash boost from Champions League qualification, meaning sales are likely to be the main form of funds for Ineos to really revamp and overhaul the squad at Ruben Amorim’s disposal.

One big casualty of this is likely to be Alejandro Garnacho, who has one foot out the door at United, which could raise as much as £50m in pure profit, which could be worth £250m in PSR rules.

In addition, Rasmus Hojlund is searching for his exit from United, having come to a realisation he wasn’t going to make it at the club after back-to-back seasons of appalling form.

Bruno Fernandes is subject of £100m interest from Al-Hilal which is another big money making sale Ineos may be forced to sanction. In addition, loanees Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are all expected to be sold.

Now, one has a growing interest in Germany.

Bayer Leverkusen linked with Jadon Sancho swoop

Despite Chelsea having a £25m obligation to buy Sancho this summer, there remains speculation over whether they will make the decision to instead pay £5m penalty to return him to United.

If Sancho does return to United, it is expected he will be placed straight onto the transfer list, and already interested parties are arriving.

Now, according to The Independent, Bayer Leverkusen are considering a move to sign Sancho this summer in the event he is to return to United and be put up for sale, likely at a reduced price from the £25m obligation Chelsea have.

Leverkusen are considering a move, due to being impressed by Sancho’s performances in the Bundesliga previously for Borussia Dortmund. The German side will face interest from Italy for Sancho, but Leverkusen will have the advantage if they want to sign him.

This is because of the £126m they are hoping to receive for Florian Wirtz, along with a further £30m for Jeremie Frimpong. However, Leverkusen’s interest may yet disappear with their new manager search coming close to a conclusion.

Erik ten Hag could end Manchester United’s hopes of getting rid of Jadon Sancho

A move to Leverkusen would be perfect for Sancho to try and revive his career in Germany, where he has had his only success.

However, this could all come crashing down at the hands of Erik ten Hag, who has said yes to taking charge of Leverkusen upon Xabi Alonso’s exit, and now awaits the final decision of the Bundesliga team.

If Ten Hag is appointed, it is almost certain he would shut down any talks around signing Sancho, having a storied past with the Englishman, including sending him out on loan twice.

If this happens, it might be a big blow for United, with Amorim unlikely to want Sancho around, thus sabotaging the rebuild unless another suitable club is found.
