Newcastle United have eight first-team players whose contracts expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Toon chiefs inherited a Newcastle United that desperately needing to gets its ship in order regarding player contracts. With each passing season, the Magpies let go surplus stars who have played their part but, given the fast-paced nature of the Saudi-backed era, are better served elswhere.

The likes of Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett were given well wishes by supporters when their time came to an end last summer. However, the same reception was not given to Ryan Fraser when he joined Southampton.

Fast forward 12 months and Jamal Lewis looks set to have played his final game in black-and-white stripes. Callum Wilson’s future, however, remains in limbo as his deal runs into the final few weeks.

Trimming the fat from the wage bill is a necessity for clubs to kick on and distribute funds elsewhere. Could next summer be the first time since the takeover when Newcastle are in good nick contracts-wise?
