Manchester City are set for a revamp in midfield in the wake of Kevin De Bruyne leaving the club at the end of the season.
Florian Wirtz was a target for City, but they’ve since pulled the plug on a move for the Bayer Leverkusen star due to the suspected overall cost.
Indeed, City are not thinking of changing their stance on Wirtz even though Liverpool have now taken the lead in the race.
However, Manchester City are eyeing other midfielders, and one target has now won the Midfielder of the Year award in his league.

Milan have had a difficult season, with a mid-table finish on the cards and just the Supercoppa Italiana to their name, but Reijnders has been in fine form.
The Dutchman’s tally of 10 goals and five assists from 36 Serie A outings has seen him win the Midfielder of the Season award.
Reijnders also bagged three goals in 10 Champions League outings, along with a further two goals in the Coppa Italia.
How much Tijjani Reijnders could cost Manchester City
As well as being a superb goalscoring midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders is also ‘one of the best passers in Serie A’ and boasts ‘excellent dribbling skills’, as per Total Football Analysis.
And at 26 years of age, he’s in his prime, making him a first-team ready option for City should they choose to sign him.
Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that City were preparing an offer for Reijnders in excess of €50million (£42million).
It has been reported that Milan would like a fee in excess of £57million for Reijnders, so negotiations over the fee could well be on the cards.
City fans have already given their verdict on the prospect of signing Reijnders.
