Sky Sports forced to apologise for X-rated interview after Sunderland beat Sheffield United

Tommy Watson celebrates after scoring for Sunderland against Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final

Tommy Watson was speaking to Sky Sports after his winner for Sunderland against Sheffield United

Sky Sports were forced to apologise after an x-rated post-match interview with Sunderland hero Tommy Watson. The Black Cats returned to the Premier League in dramatic fashion after the 19-year-old's stoppage-time winner against Sheffield United.

Regis Le Bris' side completed a remarkable comeback with two goals in the closing stages to down the Blades, who took the lead in the first-half. Watson, who will leave the Stadium of Light in the summer after completing a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, curled home an inch-perfect effort in second-half stoppage time to secure their route back into the English top-flight.

Sunderland fell behind after 25 minutes when Tyrese Campbell lofted the ball over Anthony Patterson. United had the ball in the back of the net shortly after, however, it was ruled out after Vinicius Souza interfered with play after Harrison Burrows' volley.

An emotional Watson spoke to Sky Sports after the dramatic win but let his emotions spill over with an x-rated remark. "I think my celebration said it all, I can't really put it into words to be honest, just look around us," he began.

"It's f***ing...unbelievable. "We will see each other in the Premier League next year," Watson added.

However, the interviewer was forced to intervene midway through the interview to apologise for Watson's language. "We must apologise for the language that you've used, we understand that you are emotional," he said.

Sunderland looked consigned to another season of Championship football heading into the dying embers but Eliezer Mayenda sparked the comeback with a superb effort. Watson ensured the game wouldn't go beyond 90 minutes after capitalising on Kieffer Moore's stray pass and curling beyond Michael Cooper.

The 19-year-old continued: "I have been thinking about it for weeks, I think it was written, the story was written when I got off the bench. "I couldn't have pictured it any better to be honest.

"I got closed down and I just saw a little gap and I just used the defender and put it in the bottom corner."
