THE Birkenhead tunnel will be closed on bank holiday Monday while Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade is in full swing.

The closure of the Queensway Tunnel will begin at midday and last until 9pm, Mersey Tunnels has announced.

The Kingsway Tunnel, which connects Liverpool and Wallasey, will not be affected.

Liverpool city centre is expected to be busier than usual on Monday with Liverpool fans expected to line the streets to view the team's Premier League victory parade.

The parade begins at Queens Drive in Allerton at 2.30pm, arriving at the city centre several hours later.

Travellers are warned to ‘consider their options’ and to factor in extra time when making their travel plans.

A spokesman for Mersey Tunnels said: “On Monday, May 26, the Queensway, Birkenhead Tunnel will be closed to traffic from 12pm until 9pm.

“Liverpool city centre is expected to busier than normal, so please plan ahead, consider your options, and allow extra time for your journey where necessary.”
