Arsenal Women win Champions League as Stina Blackstenius' goal stuns Barcelona

Arsenal have been crowned Queens of Europe after a tense victory over reigning champions Barcelona in the Women's Champions League final. Stina Blackstenius netted the decisive goal midway through the second half, with Arsenal having now won the competition for the second time in the club's history.

Barcelona, who have triumphed in this competition across three of the last four seasons, entered the contest as heavy favourites. The dominant force in the women's game, Barcelona won all but one of their matches en route to the showpiece event in Lisbon, with their only defeat coming against Women's Super League side Manchester City in their opening group game.

However, it was Arsenal, marshalled by Lionesses hero Leah Williamson, who prevailed against the odds, putting their bodies on the line to end an 18-year wait to win the Champions League. The north Londoners, who first won the competition in 2007, remain the only English team to have won the biggest prize in European football.
