Pat Nevin Warns Chelsea’s Defence Could Crumble Against Forest Danger Man

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has warned about the Blues’ defence ahead of a crucial Premier League game with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Solidity at the back was highlighted as a problem by Nevin in a game that can secure the Blues qualification for the Champions League next term.

Nevin was particularly worried about the danger of Nottingham Forest’s strike partnership, Anthony Elanga and Chris Wood. He spoke about the Blues’ defensive struggles, discussing their backline:

“It’s been different, it’s changed throughout the season. It always has to be Levi Colwill, but it’s who goes beside him. Trevoh Chalobah has been good, Tosin Adarabioyo has come in, various people have done it, and it’s got a bit more stable recently, but this is a test.

“Especially against Anthony Elanga and Chris Wood, they are good players who are hard to deal with.”

Nevin specifically shared his worry about Chris Wood, but believed Chelsea would be able to hold the striker down and win the game:

“Colwill is a litter older now, but he will need all the experience in the world to keep Wood quiet. Wood has had a brilliant season. His movement is superb and he’s so intelligent. If Chelsea can keep Wood from scoring, I think Chelsea will win.

“They have more quality in the rest of the field, they are slightly better. But it’s so slight, it’s wafer thin between the two clubs.”

Chris Wood has been ever-present for Forest this campaign, claiming the club’s highest Premier League goalscorer award with 20 goals so far. His goal-scoring ability will be a massive test for the Blues’ defence.

Chelsea Prepare to Face Forest

The Blues’ away performance is something to be concerned about. They’ve performed miserably on the road in 2025 with barely any Premier League away wins. Their previous away win was against Fulham in April, and since then, they’ve struggled in other stadiums in England.

The game is important for both teams. Chelsea are fifth, level with Newcastle on points and one goal better than Aston Villa on goal difference. A victory would see them qualify for the Champions League. Nottingham Forest, in search of their first Champions League campaign, must win and pray that other results benefit them.
