West Ham could be set to table a contract offer to CJ Egan-Riley as his contract runs down at Burnley.

The 22-year-old has emerged as a target for the Hammers after playing a key role in a record-breaking defensive line in the Championship.

Despite his successes with the Clarets, the England under-21 international looks destined to depart Turf Moor when his deal expires in the coming weeks.

This could hand Graham Potter and Co. the perfect opportunity to land the centre-back with an offer potentially set to be tabled in East London.

West Ham could make Egan-Riley contract offer

It is fair to say that the Irons are in need of defensive options in the summer after a turbulent campaign in the Premier League.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

With the English head coach mainly utilising a three centre-back approach, the need for a wide array of options is growing larger in E20, ready for the new season.

This is especially the case with Nayef Aguerd looking increasingly unlikely to make a return to E20 after his loan spell at Real Sociedad.

As a result, bringing in Egan-Riley on a free transfer could prove to be a smart piece of business from the Hammers to kick off their summer business.

Former Irons midfielder Martin Allen has been left excited by a move for the Englishman despite the high level of interest in his signature.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “The centre-backs haven’t excelled at West Ham this season, that’s for sure.

“There’s Mavropanos and Todibo, but it doesn’t look like Potter fancies them.

“To bring in another defender like Egan Riley, after such an outstanding season with Burnley on a free transfer, I imagine there will be a lot of clubs in for him.

“If you were West Ham and not paying a transfer fee, a five-year deal would be perfectly reasonable as long as the money is right.

“*West Ham have got to be looking at players like that.*“

Egan-Riley would represent coup for West Ham

It is fair to say that last summer was a large-scale disappointment for supporters in East London despite initial excitement.

The likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme have failed to live up to their price tags, in a window that can’t be replicated this time around.

As a result, fending off interest from the likes of Strasbourg for Egan-Riley could represent a truly positive start to the window under Potter.

The Englishman will be keen to build a squad closer to his own image, with the young centre-back proving his talents in an excellent season at Burnley.

If the Irons could tempt the ex-Manchester City starlet to the London Stadium, it would represent a sign of intent moving into the new campaign.
