Report: Aston Villa ready to make move to sign "world-class" league-winner for Emery

Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who will be allowed to leave this summer, according to Football Insider.

For the third consecutive season, Aston Villa will be playing European football throughout the 2025/26 campaign. It is the latest in a string of stellar accomplishments for the club since they replaced Steven Gerrard with Unai Emery in 2022, the Spaniard having overseen a revolution at Villa Park.

The Villans not only reached the quarter-finals of their first Champions League campaign in four decades, but could qualify for the competition once again should they win their final Premier League match and other results go in their favour. Regardless of what competition they qualify for, it has been another brilliant season for the Midlands side.

Unsurprisingly, Villa are already keeping an eye on the upcoming transfer window, which will open at the start of June. Given that star goalkeeper Emi Martinez has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa, the club are looking at options to potentially replace the Argentinian.

Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has reported that Caoimhin Kelleher will be allowed to depart Liverpool in the coming weeks for around £40 million. Already back-up to the sensational Alisson, Kelleher will be pushed to third choice in the coming campaign should he stay at Liverpool, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to link up with the club having signed last year.

As such, the door is open for Kelleher to depart who, at 26 years old, will no doubt only move to a club that would make him first choice. The Republic of Ireland international, who has been dubbed "world-class" by teammate Virgil van Dijk, has proven, across numerous seasons, that he is comfortable in the top flight whenever he has stood in for Alisson.

Kelleher would have an obvious place in Emery’s Aston Villa side should Martinez depart and the Villans, reportedly, would be happy to finalise a deal for the shot-stopper.

Entering the final year of his contract, it makes sense for both parties to see Kelleher depart Liverpool and were he to join Villa, who have Kelleher on their “wanted list” of players, he would be moving to a club that are unquestionably on the rise.
