Sky Sports: Arsenal want to sign another 'world-class' winger alongside Rodrygo, Berta in talks

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is “still a topic” of conversation for Arsenal ahead of the transfer window, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

On paper, it has been yet another strong season for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has firmly re-established them as Champions League qualifiers after an era of uncertainty in the days after Arsene Wenger's departure, with Arsenal having finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons.

While Arteta has done some brilliant work with the Gunners, he will be painfully aware of the fact that, despite it all, he has won no major silverware since the 2019 FA Cup. As such, the North London side are already looking to bolster their squad in the summer, with Arsenal having already reached an agreement in principle with midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

It would also seem that Arsenal are pushing to reinforce their attacking ranks and with links to Rodrygo from Real Madrid, Arsenal look ready to add even more to their offensive line.

Arsenal Considering Lookman

Forward has blossomed in Italy

Across two loan spells from RB Leipzig with Fulham and Leicester City respectively between 2020 and 2022, Ademola Lookman was a frustrating player to watch. The forward evidently had quality that had not been honed in on and his lack of form led to a departure from Germany after his loan at Leicester, with Lookman joining Atalanta.

In the three years since, Lookman has developed brilliantly. Comfortable either out wide or through the middle, Lookman has been a crucial part of Atalanta’s first team for some time now. The Nigerian international famously scored a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing his club’s first-ever Europa League title. Lookman has been called "world class" by journalist Matteo Bonetti for his form.

Lookman’s form saw him named the African Footballer of the Year while being nominated for the Ballon d’Or. It is no surprise that this has caught the attention of potential buyers, such as Arsenal. The Gunners are weighing up striking options, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both having struggled with injuries this season.

In Lookman, Arsenal would be signing a player who can either play as a number nine or as a winger, offering depth to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Whether Arsenal and Atalanta can agree a fee for Lookman, however, remains to be seen.
