Steelers Aaron Rodgers Saga Reveals Glaring Franchise Truth

The story around Aaron Rodgers has not changed since March. Teams have moved on from their pursuits and found other quarterback options but he remains in no rush to decide on his plans for the 2025 season.

The former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets play caller has two options: retire or join the Pittsburgh Steelers, serving as a one-year rental for the franchise. At this point, both paths seem just as likely to happen.

One would think that the offseason bleeding away would hasten the Steelers to get Rodgers on board and for Rodgers to start working out with the team. But the two parties are not pushing the envelope on this matter.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler detailed as much with his latest update on the Rodgers and Steelers saga.

"The whole Steelers' front office is out at a retreat for scouting purposes they do every year... It's not really on the radar for [Rodgers' signing] to happen right now."

There are a couple things to unpack here. Rodgers has never been pegged as the long-term solution to the Steelers' problems. The continued delay on his end may have the franchise in doubt of his return to the game in any fashion.

Simultaneously, Pittsburgh is clearly looking to bleed the clock until next offseason. Under this leadership and with Mike Tomlin still roaming the sidelines, that may not mean an organic tank that sees the Steelers plummet to the bottom of the league standings.

However, maybe there is little urgency to strike a deal with Rodgers because the difference or drop off from him to Mason Rudolph does not change much for the franchise. A stout defense should drive their success and offensively their focus will be founded on a limited quarterback role with a strong rushing attack.

Whoever commands this post will not be holding it into next season and we bet when the next spring rolls around, all efforts will be devoted to nailing down a young starter under center.
