Exclusive: Manchester United 'really like' 18-year-old Scottish wonderkid, but Ineos face one problem

Manchester United’s transfer philosophy has placed huge emphasis on youth recruitment under Ineos and this summer will be no different.

Ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival at the club, there has been a conscious effort to target the stars of tomorrow.

Speaking in 2024, Ratcliffe described this as signing the next Kylian Mbappe, before he becomes the world class player who will cost £80m.

Manchester United did this with Chido Obi, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro over the opening two transfer windows, while this summer is set to follow a similar trend.

United are set to confirm the arrival of Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno, a left wing-back from Paraguay who has been compared with Brazil legend Marcelo.

Additionally, Enzo Kana-Biyik has agreed to join United for free after his Le Havre contract expires.

United want to sign the talented players from their source clubs, instead of waiting an extra few years to buy for quadruple the price from another club.

Manchester United one of several interested in Lennon Miller

With Ineos’ recruitment philosophy, it is highly likely that United will be looking for further wonderkid additions this summer.

Now, TBR’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey told United in Focus that 18-year-old Motherwell midfielder, Lennon Miller, is one youngster who is on United’s shortlist.

“Lennon Miller is a top player, he really is – he doesn’t have the press in England, but the clubs South of the Border know all about him.

“United are one of those sides, they like him – he is not a priority given the work they need to do, but they are looking around he world at young talent and they like Miller.”

However, despite United’s interest, Bailey has explained that Ineos are not leading the push for the Scotland star.

“As it stands, it does look like Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, are trying to take him to Strasbourg.”

In an article from TBR Football, Bailey admitted that there are plenty more clubs showing interest including Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and also Serie A sides, where Miller will have the Scott McTominay success story to look up to.

Miller is considered to be one of the most exciting talents in British football right now and has enjoyed a breakout for Motherwell this season at the age of 18.

In the Scottish Premiership this season, Miller has racked up eight assists and two goals, which is an impressive tally for a youngster and led to him securing a call-up to the Scottish national team.

Speaking with Goal after being called up, Miller showcased the confidence he has in his ability.

“I’m confident in my own ability, I’m obviously not going to go in and be the best player there, but I believe that I could maybe in a couple of months be the best player there.

“I think that’s how you need to think as a football player – you need to want to be the best.”

Miller has it all as a midfielder, with his technique and vision making him a real threat on the ball, while his strong physicality makes him an impressive force defensively and in dribbling by opponents.

It would be an exciting move, but it would probably take a lot of convincing with Chelsea leading the way.
