Most defenses across the league today would kill to have a chance to have a dynamic linebacker like Bobby Wagner on their team. The Washington Commanders know how fortunate they are to have the All-Pro on their roster. ...
Even if Wagner is entering his 14th season as a pro, and turning 35 years old in a few months.
As the Commanders are preparing for the second season of the Dan Quinn era, Wagner's skill set and leadership are a major point of emphasis for the organization. The best part is that despite the thousands of snaps he's participated in, it doesn't seem like Wagner is set to slow down.
It's why Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman ranked Wagner at the top of the list of players over 30 entering the 2025 season.
"Wagner continues to set the standard in run defense well into his 30s," Wasserman wrote. "His 91.2 run-defense grade ranked second among qualified linebackers in 2024, the seventh time in nine seasons he’s hit the 90.0 mark. He also produced as a blitzer, generating 28 pressures, four sacks and a 90.9 pass-rush grade."
There is always concern that, despite a successful season the year prior, a player of Wagner's age won't be able continue to play at a high level.
"Father Time" is undefeated, after all.
So yet ...
There will be concern that Wagner could hit a wall as he is entering his second season in Washington. Until that happens, though, the chances are the future Hall-of-Famer will be in line to lead the way for another playoff run with the Commanders.
