Following a party at Montjuïc last week in which they lifted the La Liga trophy despite a defeat to Villarreal, Barcelona travel to the Basque Country to finish their campaign with a match against historic rivals Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés in the 2024-25 season finale on Sunday Night Fútbol.

This will be the 380th and final La Liga match of the season, and it should be a lot of fun. Both teams are locked into their spots in the table so there are no stakes involved, giving the two sides freedom to just enjoy themselves and put on a show in front of one of the best crowds in football.

These two never play boring matches, especially at San Mamés, so we should expect a fun 90 minutes in which both sides will be looking for a victorious ending to the season. Hansi Flick wants Barça to sign off the right way and end an unforgettable campaign with one last victory, especially after a loss last week.

But the truth is the result doesn’t really matter, and most of the big stars on both teams will be focused on staying healthy and avoiding injuries before playing some big games for their various national teams in about 10 days.

This has the potential to be a little boring if the players aren’t too interested in taking big risks physically, but these two teams usually end up putting on a good show no matter the circumstances and we should be in for a fun one on Sunday.

Let’s dance.

PREDICTION

Losing two games in a row to finish the season won’t matter, but it still wouldn’t be nice from a Barça perspective. I think this will be fun and high-scoring, and the Blaugrana will find a way to take home at least a point: 2-2 draw.
