Manchester United have to get creative if they want to back Ruben Amorim with as many players as possible this summer after missing out on Champions League football. The United boss has to recruit the right fit for his demanding 3-4-3 just as much as better quality, but his budget won't allow change of the magnitude he needs.
That's where the free agent market comes in.
With 67 Premier League stars currently set to be out of contract in July, there is an opportunity to look at. Amorim needs short-term improvement, and adding players with English top-flight experience rather than taking risks on imports could be a wise strategy.
Read on as Express Sport identify four Premier League free transfers United could sanction to help Amorim mould his new-look squad.
Nelson Semedo
Nelson Semedo is set to leave Wolves once his contract expires and would offer vast Premier League experience and a ready-made right-wing-back.
The 31-year-old has made 181 appearances for Wolves since joining from Barcelona and is well accustomed to playing in a three-at-the-back formation.
United could offload veteran names like Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans this summer, leaving room for older heads in a youthful squad.
Semedo may not be a glamorous option, but he would provide Amorim with a good value alternative option to Diogo Dalot, allowing Amad to play most of his football in attack.
Kyle Walker-Peters
Another candidate to bolster United's wing-back numbers is Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 28-year-old has 148 Premier League appearances under his belt and is expected to stay in the competition after Southampton's relegation.
Interim manager Simon Rusk has suggested Walker-Peters is leaving the club as a free agent.
So, while his stock may currently be low, he has previously displayed signs of top-flight quality and could add competition for Dalot if Amorim takes a chance on him.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
There was a time when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was one of the Premier League's most coveted strikers.
United and Arsenal have been strongly linked in the past, with Everton demanding as high as £50million in the past.
The 28-year-old's career has been plagued by injuries, though, and he has managed just three goals in 25 Premier League games this term.
Rasmus Hojlund has managed just one more in 31 outings. Is Calvert-Lewin worth a shot?
Jamie Vardy
Honestly, why not at this stage?
Jamie Vardy marked his emotional Leicester City farewell by scoring a 200th goal for the club on his 500th appearance.
He may be 38 years old, but he's notched nine Premier League goals this season, more than any United player.
With Chido Obi breaking through and Hojlund clearly in need of a more seasoned striker to learn from and take some of the spotlight, Vardy represents a surprising yet eye-catching opening.
