Railston: Ruben Amorim must start Manchester United player who he described as 'naive'

Chido Obi travelled to Bilbao but couldn't be named in the squad.

Manchester United will play Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final earlier in the week, falling short at the Estadio de San Mames after a first half goal from Brennan Johnson.

The season revolved around winning the Europa League because the Premier League campaign has been written off for a few months at Old Trafford. United have been abysmal in the topflight, which means this afternoon's game against Aston Villa is a dead-rubber contest for Ruben Amorim.

Aston Villa are chasing Champions League qualification and they will smell blood when they arrive at Old Trafford, so here are the five things to look for on the final day of the season.

Debuts handed out?

This disastrous season has shown the majority of players in the dressing room are not good enough to represent United and the squad must be gutted in the summer. It will be pointless to start players against Aston Villa who are likely to leave and a handful of debuts should be handed out.

Fans would rather watch academy prospects give their all against Aston Villa than players who have been responsible for this season, and it will be the only interesting aspect of the game.

Bendito Mantato, Jaydan Kamason and Godwill Kukonki are obvious candidates to make their debuts after spending time around the first-team, but others could be involved as well.

Chido Obi should also be given his first start at Old Trafford after making substitute appearances. Amorim has described Obi as "naive" on two occasions, but nothing can be lost by starting him.

Obi should make his first Old Trafford start.

Amorim's speech?

It's become a tradition to make an end-of-season speech at Old Trafford on the final day of the season, but whether Amorim addresses the crowd after Aston Villa remains to be seen.

Amorim is an impressive communicator, but results have certainly not been impressive since his appointment in November. It will be fascinating to see whether Amorim picks up the microphone and what he says if he does.

Is there much for Amorim to add after a bleak campaign? He's probably said it all in press conferences and interviews, and might feel it's best to avoid a speech on Sunday.

The reaction from fans

The players usually applaud each corner of Old Trafford to thank supporters after the final home game of the season, but there might not be any fans remaining in the stadium to applaud.

United have been shocking this season and the players will sheepishly walk around the pitch after full-time. They will have apologetic faces, but they are guaranteed to struggle for sympathy from the stands.

The fans who actually decide to stay will be angry and it could become pretty toxic.

United fans deserve better.

Protest against the Glazers

The anger among supporters is also expected to be palpable before kick-off, as a protest against the Glazers has been organised by The 1958. Avram Glazer sat alongside Sir Jim Ratcliffe to watch the Europa League final in Bilbao on Wednesday and removing the American family remains the target for fan groups.

The 1958 have reiterated they want the Glazers "out" because "they were never welcome", and fans have been asked to join the fresh protest against the Glazers before the Aston Villa game.

There should be a healthy turnout for the protest, especially after the Europa League final, which had the potential to paper over the cracks and influence fan sentiment toward ownership.

Avram Glazer attended the game.

More unwanted records?

United have suffered a staggering 20 defeats in all competitions this season, which is their most in a campaign since losing 22 in 1973/74, when they were relegated from the top-flight.

Amorim has amassed several unwanted records during his first season in Manchester and could make more history against Aston Villa. For example, United last suffered four league defeats in a row the same season in February 1979, and they could do that for the first time in 46 years on Sunday.

United could also lose as many as half of their league games in a season for the first time since 1933/34 when they were in the second tier. They last did so in the top flight in 1930/31.
