It’s an open secret at this point that Manchester United are a broken football club, and the only unknown is if Ruben Amorim is the one to put it back together.
After the Europa League final defeat, even papering over the cracks is no longer possible so there’s no point trying to play the media game anymore.
That’s exactly what Ruben Amorim has done, making an ominous observation about the problems at the club in a pointed remark.
Amorim’s tiff with Garnacho has already effectively confirmed one departure, but what he can feel during training is a warning sign for everyone else too.

Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd observation
Amorim has been nothing but honest in every public interaction and while all that counts for nothing if the results aren’t positive, at least Man Utd fans aren’t being gaslit.
It is clear that after more than a decade, it can no longer be about switching a switch on or off by firing a manager and going again.
For better or for worse, Amorim needs to be able to see this through to the end, and outside of relegation, Man Utd literally can’t have a worse season than the current one!
Amorim spoke to the media ahead of the game against Aston Villa and made an ominous observation about the problems at the club.

He said: “It is really hard, I will not try to convince you otherwise. It has been a tough season. The problems, for me, were deeper than I was thinking because I can watch, I can feel it during training at Carrington, in all our organisation.
“I suffer like any Mancunian suffer to see all the things, but I think we are making some steps to improve things. You cannot see that because results are so poor, but we are in a better place, I can guarantee you.”
Amorim’s words need to match Man Utd’s actions
The biggest problem (Advantage?) with being so honest is that there’s no hiding place anymore for anyone – the club, the manager, or the players.
Amorim ‘guarantees’ in the quotes above that the club is in a better place, while the tales of the mythical “Ruben Amorim pre-season impact” are still making fans giddy.
Then there’s the impending Man Utd rebuild which has been talked about with such conviction that the expectations are sky high.
The only reason why this season was begrudgingly written off is because the burden of expectations was entirely transferred to the next one.
Amorim’s words are so far writing cheques that the actions can’t cash. That needs to change in the summer and the next season.
