Goodbye Old Trafford: 5 Man United players could feature for the last time today vs Aston Villa

Manchester United are set to host Aston Villa in the final Premier League game of the 2024-25 season today.

It has been a disastrous campaign for the Red Devils and the mood will be at an all-time low after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last Thursday.

Manager Ruben Amorim is expected to stay in charge for the upcoming season, which means several current squad members could be shown the exit door.

Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen are set to leave the club for free once their contracts expire at the end of June.

Lindelof has been one of the longest-serving members of the squad, having joined the team in 2017.

Eriksen signed three years ago and enjoyed a brilliant debut season in United colours.

He and Casemiro built a solid midfield pairing but the duo struggled to maintain their physical levels from the 2023-24 season onwards.

Jonny Evans is also expected to call time on a remarkable career at his boyhood club.

He first joined United in 2004 and departed after spending 11 years with the Red Devils.

He returned on a trial basis in 2023 and was offered a one-year deal by Erik ten Hag during a defensive injury crisis.

Evans exceeded expectations and earned a 12-month contract extension as a reliable squad option.

The 37-year-old has been troubled by several injuries this season, allowing him to make only 12 appearances.

While these three players are almost certain to depart, there is growing uncertainty around the futures of Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho.

Casemiro was instrumental in United’s run to the European final but his domestic form has been well below par.

He appears to lack energy and drive, and with no European football next season, keeping him on a massive salary makes little sense.

His departure will allow the Red Devils to reduce their bloated wage bill.

Amorim has told Garnacho to find a new club following his public outburst after the final defeat, during which he blamed the manager for giving him just 20 minutes to play.

Although his frustration was understandable, the timing and manner of his comments reflected poorly on his professionalism.

The 20-year-old has been seen as a rising star since emerging from the academy, but his future now looks set to be away from Old Trafford.
