Ruben Amorim believes Bruno Fernandes could stay at Manchester United if he sees progress

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has claimed Bruno Fernandes is willing to stay at the club so long as he can see it is "changing a lot of things" after their horror season. The Red Devils capped off a woeful campaign by losing the Europa League final against Tottenham, missing out on a £100m jackpot and Champions League football.

United lost 1-0 after a scrappy final won by Brennan Johnson's solitary goal and the team will now finish the season trophyless and cannot end up higher than 14th in the Premier League.

Amorim has been very open about the scale of the task facing United with some brutal comments and even said he would happily step aside "without compensation" if the club felt he wasn't the man for the job.

But there have also been concerns that talisman and captain Fernandes could now leave the club, with the team set to be without Europe next season, after the Portugal international admitted the Red Devils could "cash in" on him amid their financial struggles.

Amorim said he was confident Fernandes would stay, but insisted the club had to show it was striving to improve after season that has seen them lose 18 games.

"It’s important for Bruno to see that we are changing a lot of things in our club," Amorim said, speaking to TNT Sports. "The behaviour, the everyday organisation, the pace of training.

"All these things, if he sees that we are doing that across all levels, he will want to stay at this club. He loves this club.

"That is the most important thing - not the Champions League. He wants to win with this club and he trains and behaves at a high level. Everybody here needs to do that - he will be here for that."

There have been fears Fernandes could leave after he admitted the club could "cash in" on him

It comes after Fernandes reaffirmed his commitment to United but teased the possibility of an exit if the club felt they could benefit from a sizeable transfer fee. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent months.

"I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go," Fernandes said after the cup final defeat. "I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to great days.

"In the day that the club thinks that I'm too much or it's time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I've always said it and I keep my word in the same way.

"If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cash in or whatever, it's what it is, and football sometimes is like this."
