Leicester City transfer notebook: Teen striker scouted, Vardy destination mooted, Psr impact

Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his frustration that he hasn’t been able to get on with preparing transfers, but it would be a surprise if Leicester City as a whole weren’t thinking about the summer window.

As with two seasons ago, a fall into the Championship and adjusting to a significantly-reduced revenue will mean plenty of changes in the City squad this summer.

While van Nistelrooy isn’t involved, there will be work going on behind the scenes to prepare for transfer business.

City scout teenage striker

One position City will have to strengthen is up front, with Jamie Vardy leaving the club.

And rumours have started to emerge, with City reportedly having scouted teenage striker Ezekiel Alladoh.

The 19-year-old Ghanaian plays for Swedish top-flight outfit Brommapojkarna and has made a quick start to life there since a transfer from his home nation back in January. So far, he has five goals in 12 outings for the Swedish club.

Patson Daka’s potential departure means multiple strikers may be required this summer, with a new first-choice forward arguably the biggest deal the club will do this coming window.

It would be a surprise then if they were targeting Alladoh as someone who could be the new number nine. They will need a tried-and-tested striker to replace Vardy.

Lazio eye ‘cut-price’ Faes

Sales will be required at City this summer for a number of reasons. Firstly, they need to get wages off the books as the TV and sponsorship money is going to reduce drastically next season.

Secondly, they need to make some cash to help them negotiate Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid getting deeper into hot water with the authorities.

And then thirdly, they need to move on players who don’t want to be around. There may be a few in the squad who don’t want to play a second campaign in the Championship.

Wout Faes looks to be an obvious contender to depart for a number of the above reasons, and Lazio, first linked back in January, reportedly remain keen.

It’s been said in Italy that they feel the Belgian can be snapped up for €10m (£8.4m). But that would not aid City’s PSR situation all that much.

Vardy ‘on Valencia shortlist’

Where is Vardy going next? City fans are keen to know so that they can plan their pilgrimage.

Vardy’s best man David Nugent is well-placed to give insight on the City icon’s next step and while he feels he can still do it in the Premier League, even for a top-10 club, he reckons his next move will be abroad, so he can soak up some sun for the final few years of his career.

In that case, a switch to Valencia may work out nicely. The La Liga side, managed by former City managerial candidate Carlos Corberan, are said to be considering a move for Vardy.

How will PSR charges affect transfer window

City have been handed charges for alleged breaches of PSR and, as far as punishment goes, a points deduction is most likely should the charges be upheld.

But will there be a transfer embargo? It can’t be said either way for certain, but that’s not a punishment that has so far been handed out to other clubs deemed to have broken PSR rules.

When City were hit with a transfer embargo last season, that was in anticipation of them potentially going over the permitted loss threshold.

From July, City enter a new financial year and so a new three-year PSR assessment period. It would be a surprise if at the very start of a financial year that they would be predicted to breach PSR and so banned from bringing in players.
