Let competition for Browns quarterback begin: Crowquill

Ted Crow

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns start organized team activities (OTAs) Tuesday with five quarterbacks, four of whom will be competing for the starting spot and another who has started throwing again after tearing his achilles tendon twice.

Coach Kevin Stefanski has declared it an open competition for starting QB from among veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Deshaun Watson rounds out the five-man QB room.

Pickett started a couple of years in Pittsburgh, then won a Super Bowl ring as a backup to Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia before landing in Cleveland.

Flacco returned to the Browns from Indianapolis, while Gabriel and Sanders were both drafted No. 94 and No. 144 respectively.

With so many QBs getting starter’s reps, the Browns will need to make sure they have plenty of receivers to run pass patterns and catch the ball.
