Ruben Amorim has reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club this summer.

Manchester United are looking ahead to a busy summer transfer window that will likely see a fleet of senior players replaced.

Following what has been a dismal season for the Red Devils, the club are looking to act fast and make crucial changes to help United return to their usual standards. Ruben Amorim’s side are guaranteed to finish outside the top 13 places in the Premier League table and could finish as low as 17th if their last game of the season doesn’t go their way.

With the Europa League heartache to add to the list, it’s been a season to forget for United and everyone involved will be desperate to see the back of it. As things stand, it appears no player is safe from the summer axe-wielding as a hefty restructure looms ahead.

Will Alejandro Garnacho leave Man United?

“It’s hard for everyone. The season was s***, both now losing the final tonight, and in the league, where we didn’t beat anyone, that’s the truth,” Garnacho told reporters after losing the Europa League. “Up until the final, I’ve played every round, and today to play 20 minutes… I don’t know. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens after.”

United knocked back a bid from Napoli for Garnacho during the January window but they are now prepared to listen to offers for his exit. Bids in the region of £60-70 million will reportedly be enough to convince the Red Devils to cash in.

While any money made on Garnacho will be pure profit from a FFP point of view, there is another avenue the club could approach this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho swap deal for Lyon duo

United are in desperate need of some exciting new players ahead of what will be a huge season under a lot of pressure. With Garnacho’s future in doubt, they could opt to forego a cash move and use him in a swap deal to get a player they both want and need.

United are heavily interested in signing Lyon’s Rayan Cherki this summer and have already held talks with the French outfit. Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger provided an update on the situation earlier this week, claiming Borussia Dortmund are also in the mix.

There’s no questioning why United are after Cherki. With 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season, the versatile winger has been turning a lot of heads. He also put on a fine performance against the Red Devils in the Europa League, showing them exactly what kind of player they could be signing.

Cherki’s teammate Malick Fofana - with 11 goals and six assists this season - also impressed against United and showcased the attractive link-up play between the duo. With the Reds looking to offload a bulk of their attack, including Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and now likely Garnacho, they are in desperate need of wide players.

Plucking two of Lyon’s best players from their grasp seems a big ask but the French club remain in murky waters due to their financial struggles. After being provisionally relegated in November, OL need to drastically improve the cash situation at the club if they want to survive. Unlikely to be able to spend big this summer, Lyon may need to rely on deals like player swaps to get new signings over the line.

Bringing in a £60-70m player like Garnacho without spending on a transfer fee could be a reluctant yet appealing offer for Lyon as things stand. The Argentinian has proved he is capable of brilliance and it’s likely Lyon would build their squad around him, while United bring in two important signings for their struggling attack.
