Report: Nottingham Forest make surprise contingency plan amid Ross Wilson links, fans will love …

Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a magnificent campaign on the pitch, with all to play for in today’s final Premier League match against Chelsea.

The Reds need to win today to stand any chance of making a late play to grab a Champions League spot and even then, it might not be enough. Three points would, however, guarantee a spot in next season’s Europa League.

It’s been a great season of top-flight football on the banks of the River Trent. Forest have given fans genuine optimism that competing in the top half of the Premier League can become the norm going forward.

Behind the scenes, changes have been made. Evangelos Marinakis was forced to take action on his ownership of the club to ensure protocols were met ahead of a campaign playing in UEFA competition next season.

Now, there could be another change on the cards behind the scenes at the City Ground, but it would appear that a familiar face is the contingency plan should that possibility become a reality.

Nottingham Forest hatch plan if Ross Wilson goes

Wilson has been linked with a move to Huddersfield to oversee their recruitment drive as they look to return to the Championship following a drab season playing in League One.

According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Forest will promote Lewis Grabban into the role of Sporting Director should Wilson choose that the project on offer at Huddersfield entices him away from the club.

Grabban has been doing some coaching with the club’s under-18s this season, helping the team win the Premier League International Cup with a win over Lyon in the final earlier this month.

The former Forest striker is clearly doing something right at the football club and it would appear that the powers that be are happy to promote within rather than bring someone new in should Wilson decide to depart.

Grabban underrated and undervalued during Forest career

Forest signed Grabban for £6.5 million from Bournemouth back in the summer of 2018 and he served the club with distinction, with his time at the club finishing with promotion to the Premier League.

Grabban scored 13 goals during the promotion campaign. However, an injury sustained in a 1-0 win over Peterborough in April saw him miss the fun and games of the play-off campaign.

The striker finished with 56 goals and 10 assists from 148 appearances for the Reds, yet remarkably, he failed to convince some sections of the fan base that he was a dependable striker and captain of the team.

Grabban clearly has a lot of strong feelings for the football club and it’s great to see him back at the City Ground.

Along with Andy Reid, the pair are determined to look after the future talent coming through at the club and next season could now see Grabban even more responsibility in a new role as Sporting Director.
