West Ham could look to recoup £10million for Guido Rodriguez after a poor debut season.

The Hammers signed the Argentina international on a free transfer from Real Betis in the summer in what appeared to be a positive piece of business.

It is fair to say that the 31-year-old hasn’t worked under Graham Potter, as the Englishman has failed to get the best out of the midfielder.

Now with the summer window looming, the Irons could look to bring in a positive fee with Rodriguez potentially facing the exit door.

With hindsight, it does feel as if the signing of the defensive midfielder was strange given his general lack of mobility in the middle of the park.

Clearly, the ex-Club America man was a Julen Lopetegui signing given his more tactical and pass-heavy approach.

With the Spaniard long gone in East London, it does feel as if it’s the end of the road for Rodriguez, with a return to River Plate looking possible.

If that sort of move were to go through, the London Stadium club would likely want some sort of fee, despite signing the Argentine on a free.

This has seen former Hammers midfielder Martin Allen share his belief that £10m would be a positive fee to then spend elsewhere this summer.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “I think to get anything for him would be good.

“He hasn’t been good enough or shown enough quality. There’s been glimpses, but not enough, definitely not.

“If they could get £10m for him, that would be a fantastic deal.

“He hasn’t played that many games, but he hasn’t excelled when he has played, so anything gained to put back in the money pot is positive.

“*They’ll have to divide that pot up across several different players because West Ham do need a lot of players to take the club forward.*“

Rodriguez sale makes sense at West Ham

With the tactical approach that Potter employs, there doesn’t appear to be a proper use for the former River Plate man in the squad.

Considering the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek have been used ahead of the World Cup winner, it is clear where he sits in the pecking order.

Looking ahead to the summer, a return to his homeland for a positive fee could prove to be the perfect outcome for all parties after a difficult year in E20.
