Arsenal join Bayern Munich in Kaoru Mitoma pursuit

Arsenal have added Kaoru Mitoma to their list of potential transfer targets for the summer window, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Per the report, Arsenal would ideally like to bring in Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, although the finances needed to pull off the deal could force the Gunners to look elsewhere, hence their interest in Mitoma.

Mitoma is also wanted by Bayern Munich, with the Bavarians turning to several alternatives at the moment after their failed pursuit of Florian Wirtz, who is set to complete a move to Liverpool.

The Japanese winger was the subject of a failed bid from Saudi club Al Nassr back in January, but there is a high chance he departs the AMEX Stadium over the coming months.

Arsenal and Mitoma’s current employers, Brighton & Hove Albion, have a cordial relationship, having conducted business for Ben White and Leandro Trossard over the last five years.

Mitoma has been one of Brighton’s standout performers since breaking into the first team during the 2022/23 campaign.

Renowned for his electrifying pace, dribbling skill, and creative flair, the 27-year-old has become a fan favourite.

Although Brighton are under no pressure to sell — with Mitoma under contract until 2027 — they are known for cashing in on top talent when the price is right, as seen with the sales of Moisés Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Marc Cucurella in recent seasons.

Despite finding himself out of the starting XI of late with four consecutive substitute appearances, Mitoma has continued to deliver the goods with three goals in that time, most recently a crunch equaliser en route to a 3-2 win over Liverpool.

That was an 11th goal of the season for Mitoma, setting a new personal best in English football, and it is not hard to see why he is a man in demand.

With both Arsenal and Bayern Munich now firmly in the mix, the coming weeks could see a fierce tug-of-war for Mitoma’s signature. For Brighton, it’s another potential blockbuster sale. For the player, it could be the beginning of a new chapter on an even grander stage.
